Obviously, the type of RV you have will determine the type of preventative maintenance required. We will briefly remind you of those important things required to keep your RV in top shape, maybe preventing a call to O'B. All types of RVs:1. Keeping the waste water systems "clean" is important. This means making sure that sludge doesn't build up and harden. One of the worst things you can do is store your RV without dumping it for a period of time. Not only do you stand the chance of having the sewage harden, you can create harmful and dangerous "sewer gas". Throughouly dump and flush the holding tanks. This may take several fills before you have everything out. You might have to put 10 lbs of ice cubes in the black tank and drive a few miles to "scrub" the sludge away. 2. Keep your Fridge, Furnace and Hot water propane systems clean, especially the vents and jets. Use a high pressure hose or vacuum to clean the jets to avoid inefficiences in heating or worse complete failure of these systems. 3. Clean air conditioner or heat pump filters regularly. Many are replaceable but some can be cleaned with a high pressure stream of water from the hose. 4. Clean the battery terminals and keep the water levels proper on both coach and chassis batteries. CAUTION: dress appropriately to avoid battery acid burns. 5. Scan the internet from time to time to see if there are any recalls for your appliances. Common ones involve the refrigerators. Ask O'B if you have any questions about recalls that are current. 6. Oil the electric stairs and the hinges on your compartments from time to time. 7. Keep the oil and air filters clean in your generator and run it from time to time (at least once per month if you aren't using it otherwise.) 8. Stay current on your manufacturer recommended service for your coach. 9. Use furniture oil to oil the expensive cabinets in your RV to keep them from cracking as they dehydrate over time. 10. Empty the hot water tank every year or so to clean out the sediments. Back flush to make sure it gets empty. 11. Properly winterize your motorhome or trailer if you won't be living in it in the winter. Otherwise, you'll often have a plumbing repair job to do in spring. |
